Star Wars: The Old Republic shipped Game Update 7.9, "Legacy Reborn," today: the finale of the Legacy of the Sith arc the MMO has been telling since 2022. Broadsword slipped the patch a week from its late-May target, and it's now on live servers.

Why it matters

Four years of story get an actual ending. Darth Jadus, the Imperial Agent villain players have waited on for over a decade, uses Darth Nul's holocron to awaken latent Force connections across the galaxy, and the finale converges on Khar Shian, a Sith moon pulled back from Legends lore. If you parked your SWTOR character years ago, this is the patch to come back for: the story is solo-friendly with no gear-score gate.

The details

  • The finale hands you direct control of companions in key sections. Lana is playable, and Broadsword has teased Malgus segments.
  • Alongside the story: PvP Season 10, improvements to Wreckage on Dantooine, a Companion Locator Terminal (finally), and the Makeb Consulate Stronghold.
  • The delay was short and honest: Broadsword pushed the update from late May "over issues," and it landed a week later rather than shipping broken.
  • The next stop is bigger: expansion 8.0, "Masters of the Force," is slated for holiday 2026.

What to do with this: subscribe for a month, play the finale, and decide about 8.0 later. The Legacy of the Sith storyline start-to-finish is one of the better long-form Star Wars stories in games right now, and it costs one sub month to close it out.
