Star Wars: Demolition

Star Wars as a vehicular combat game, and it is exactly as strange as that sounds. Luxoflux reused its own Vigilante 8 engine and dropped Star Wars vehicles into arena deathmatches. Metacritic has it at 63 on PlayStation and 67 on Dreamcast. Fun in short bursts, thin the moment you play it for a whole evening.

Playing it today

Fun for an hour, thin after that. Luxoflux built Demolition on its Vigilante 8 engine and filled the arenas with Star Wars vehicles, from swoop bikes and tanks to Boba Fett on his jetpack and a rancor, all shooting at each other. Critics gave it 63 on PlayStation and 67 on Dreamcast, and the common complaint was balance: some vehicles are much stronger than others, and it shows the longer you play.

The easy way in is Sony's PS4 and PS5 release, which runs the PS1 version with sharper rendering, rewind, quick saves and video filters. It is $4.99, and PS Plus Premium members already have it. Anyone without a PlayStation needs an original PS1 or Dreamcast and a secondhand disc.

Play it if you loved Vigilante 8 or want a silly two-player night on one screen. Skip it if you want a Star Wars game with any depth.
