Star Wars Galaxies

The sandbox MMO people still argue about: player-built cities, dozens of professions, a real player economy, and a Jedi path you had to discover rather than pick. The 2005 New Game Enhancements tore that system out and the players left. Sony closed the servers in December 2011. Fan-run servers keep both eras running and are busier than you would expect.
