Star Wars: Galactic Racer got its first hotfix at 5:48am Central on Thursday, two days after launch. The notes on Steam list two changes: the game now checks your graphics driver against a higher minimum when it boots, and it adds "some stability fixes to DLSS options." There is no version number, and the patch notes page on the game's own site still says no patch has been released.
Both changes are on the PC side. We found no patch for PS5 or Xbox.
Update your graphics driver before you play
The notes do not say what the new minimum is, so install the newest driver for your card first. If the game finds an older one at boot, you will have to update, and the next launch takes longer while the game "rebuilds the shader cache on first boot." That wait is expected. Give it time before you decide the game has hung.
For GeForce cards, Nvidia's Game Ready driver for Galactic Racer is 617.42, released October 6, per SWTOR Strategies.
What the hotfix does not fix
The RTX 50-series crash. The official known-issues list still warns of crashes on Nvidia 50-series cards "when using Frame Generation and DLSS." The hotfix notes mention DLSS stability but say nothing about Frame Generation or the 50 series, and the known-issues post has not been edited since Tuesday morning. If you have an RTX 50 card and keep crashing, try turning Frame Generation off. That is our suggestion, going by how the issue is worded; the list itself gives no workaround. If you still crash, the notes point you to the game's support center.
Key rebinding. Still not in the game. A developer said on the Steam forums on Tuesday morning that the team is "considering it", with no date. Nothing new since.
Party size. Online parties still top out at three. The official Galactic Racer account said on X on Monday, the day before launch, that six-player parties are coming "within the first few weeks of launch." There is still no date.
Fullscreen and saves. On PC, switching apps while the game is in Fullscreen can still make the screen blink and the system stop responding, so avoid alt-tabbing out of Fullscreen for now. The game also still may not warn you when a save file is corrupted.
Where this leaves the game
Steam reviews stood at 81% positive out of 2,232 on Wednesday night, "Very Positive", up from 77% on launch morning. A fast first hotfix is a good sign, and PC players with recent cards should take it. It is also small: keyboard players waiting on rebinding and friend groups waiting on bigger parties got nothing today.
Earlier: the first two days on Steam, launch-day report. Everything else is on the Galactic Racer hub.
