Star Wars: Zero Company's San Diego Comic-Con panel produced actual news: a $299.99 Collector's Edition, revealed Saturday, headlined by a Black Series electronic Thermal Detonator replica with light and sound modes. Preorders opened the same day through Limited Run Games and close August 23 at 11:59 p.m. ET, a hard deadline four days before launch.

Why it matters

Collector's editions are a confidence signal as much as a product: publishers don't tool up detonator replicas for games they expect to bury quietly. Between this, the cast reveal, and a panel fronted by the narrative director, EA is treating Zero Company like a flagship. Thirty days out, that's worth registering.

Fair warning on the price math, though: $299.99 is a lot of credits for a replica prop and packaging. The game inside is the same one in the $49.99 edition.

The details

  • Collector's Edition contents: the electronic Thermal Detonator (with certificate of authenticity), a steelbook, premium foil box, retro-style jewelcase, character cards, a desk mat, pins, and patches. Via Limited Run Games and Game Rant.
  • Every preorder tier (Standard, Deluxe, Collector's) includes the Crystalline Astromech cosmetic pack.
  • The first single from the game's soundtrack dropped alongside the panel.
  • Elsewhere on the SDCC floor: LEGO's booth ran a life-size Mos Eisley installation, cantina band included, promoting its new SMART Play interactive line.

What to do with this: the Collector's Edition is for prop collectors, and they should decide before August 23. Everyone else loses nothing by waiting for reviews; we'll have ours as soon after launch as an honest playthrough allows.
