Zero Company got its first update in 19 days on Monday, September 28: a PC-only hotfix that EA describes in one sentence. The note, posted as a pinned discussion on the game's Steam hub under the EA Star Wars developer account, reads in full: "A PC hotfix has gone live for Star Wars Zero Company: Fixed a crash issue for various hardware setups." There is no version number, no console build, and no list of which hardware it means. Players in the thread put the Steam download at about 6.1GB.
Why it matters
It is the first sign of movement since patch 1.1 on September 9, and it lands a day after we wrote that nothing had followed 1.1 in the game's first month. That piece now carries a correction.
What it does not settle is the crash that matters most. EA's pinned known-issues thread still names instability on Intel 13th and 14th generation processors, still points at a BIOS update or Intel's Extreme Tuning Utility as the fix, and has not been touched since September 3. The hotfix note does not mention Intel, and at least one player in EA's own thread reported the game still crashing about 15 minutes in after the update. So if you own one of those chips, keep the workaround from our crash-fix guide in place until EA says the hotfix covers it.
One sentence for a 6GB download is thin. Players asked in the thread which hardware was fixed, whether the save-often habit is still needed, and why the download landed more than an hour before any note explained it. As of Tuesday evening EA had not replied to any of them. Bit Reactor is running on a skeleton crew after the furloughs before launch, which explains a short note better than it excuses one.
The details
- Where it is announced. Only in the pinned Steam discussion, posted Monday morning US time. EA's news hub for the game still ends at the 1.1 notes, and Steam's own announcement feed has nothing after September 9, so the Steam client's update panel will not show it.
- Size. EA gives none. Most players report 6.1GB on Steam; a couple saw 6.9GB or 7.6GB, which is normal variation in how Steam builds a delta.
- Platforms. PC only, by EA's own wording. We can find no PlayStation or Xbox post, and nothing suggests a console build is queued. Console players are on 1.1 until EA says otherwise.
- Other reports from the thread, none confirmed by EA: a first download attempt failing and a second succeeding, mod installs breaking, and a separate report of sound problems after the update.
- If you crash on PC. Open Steam or the EA app and make sure the update has actually applied; verify the game files if the first download failed. If it still crashes, the four steps in the crash-fix guide are unchanged, and Intel 13th and 14th gen owners should assume the BIOS route is still theirs.
