Star Wars: Force Commander

LucasArts' first real-time strategy game, and a rough one: an unhelpful 3D camera, a thin economy, and a soundtrack that remixes John Williams into rock. It won Most Disappointing Game of the Year at GameSpot's 2000 awards. Galactic Battlegrounds did the job properly a year later.

For completionists only. Force Commander was LucasArts' first fully 3D real-time strategy game, following an Imperial officer who defects to the Rebellion, with ground battles from Hoth to Endor. Reviewers fought the camera and the controls, GameRankings averaged 58 percent, and GameSpot named it the most disappointing game of 2000. The rock and techno remix of John Williams is worth hearing once.

It has never been sold digitally, so a secondhand disc is the only legal copy. Getting it running on current Windows is a project: install the last official patch, 1.1, then the community fix PCGamingWiki recommends, the dgVoodoo 2 graphics wrapper. Resolution tops out at 1280x1024, and PCGamingWiki reports terrain glitches on modern AMD graphics cards that nothing fixes.

If you want Star Wars RTS on a modern PC, buy Galactic Battlegrounds Saga or Empire at War instead.

Nothing sells it. A secondhand disc is the only legal way to play, and for most people Galactic Battlegrounds Saga at $5.99 is the better buy.

There has never been a console version, a remaster or a digital release. It came out on Windows in March 2000 and nowhere else.
