Star Wars: Galactic Racer has started naming its cast. Fuse Games revealed Lucy Montgomery as Hibi on September 23 and Andrew James Spooner as Darius Pax today, September 24, in a series called "Sounds of the Galactic League" that opened on September 18 with the composer: Gordy Haab, who scored Battlefront II and Squadrons. The game launches October 6, twelve days from now.
Why it matters
Haab is the safest name a Star Wars game can put on its music. He was the sole composer on EA's Battlefront and Battlefront II, scored Squadrons, and shared the Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor scores with Stephen Barton (Survivor's won a Grammy). A debut studio's arcade racer could have gone cheaper, and it did not.
The casting says something about tone, too. Fuse describes both characters as big, energetic performances, which fits a campaign built around a showman's underground circuit.
The cast so far
- Hibi (Lucy Montgomery). The Ardennian mechanic who keeps Shade's vehicle running and fronts the "Under the Hood" videos. Montgomery is an English comic actor and voice regular: Tracey Ullman's Show, Bob the Builder, Disenchantment, and game work in Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. Fuse's music and narrative director, Nathaniel Daw, says the Liverpool accent was her idea.
- Darius Pax (Andrew James Spooner). The Besalisk businessman who founded the Galactic League to bring racing back to how it used to be. Daw wanted "a big voice for a big Besalisk." Spooner is a UK actor and puppeteer with a long games list, including Baldur's Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
- Next up: the actor behind Kestar Bool, the League's reigning champion and the campaign's villain, per the Pax post.
The score
Haab recorded a hybrid orchestral and synth score at the Synchron Stage in Vienna. Walt Disney Records released the main theme, "The Soul of Racing," on September 18; the full soundtrack, 21 tracks and about an hour, goes to streaming services on October 6, launch day. Fuse's announcement post has a short documentary with Haab and Daw on how it was made.
Still not announced
No review embargo date and no preload date yet. The standing list of open questions (track count, full roster, Steam Deck) is in our four-weeks-out file, and the story setup is in our June preview.
If the soundtrack is what sells you, the main theme is streaming now and costs nothing to try. For the game itself, twelve days is a short wait for reviews.
