Ask what the most popular Star Wars game in the world is right now and you get three different answers depending on how you count. We chased the numbers for all three, with receipts. The short version: the biggest native Star Wars game on PC has about five thousand people in it tonight, the biggest Star Wars game ever by money and downloads lives on your phone, and the place where the most people are actually holding a lightsaber at any given moment is a game with a battle bus in it.
On PC: The Old Republic, and it's not close
By live concurrent players, the most played Star Wars game on PC is a 15-year-old MMO. SteamCharts has The Old Republic averaging 3,500 to 5,600 concurrent players every month of 2026, with peaks near 10,000 in May and June, and our own tracking this week puts it ahead of the next three Star Wars games on Steam combined at peak hours. The Legacy Reborn update and a running Twitch drops campaign are doing exactly what those things are for: in our tracking this week, no other native Star Wars title cracked 2,000 concurrents.
By lifetime scale: Galaxy of Heroes, quietly enormous
The biggest Star Wars game ever made, measured in money and players, is a 2015 mobile squad collector most PC players have never launched. EA told investors in 2021 that Galaxy of Heroes had passed $1 billion in lifetime revenue, the most successful title in EA's Star Wars portfolio, and by 2023 the count had reached $1.4 billion across 100 million downloads. EA doesn't publish live player counts for it, so we can't rank it on tonight's charts, which is exactly why it never comes up in this conversation despite dwarfing everything that does.
And then there's the game with 1.4 million people in it right now
As we write this, Epic's own in-game counter (surfaced by fortnite.gg) shows about 1.46 million people playing Fortnite, on a quiet Monday night in August, with a 24-hour peak just under two million. That's roughly 300 times tonight's SWTOR population. And Star Wars is not a visitor there anymore:
- In May 2025, an entire Fortnite season was a Star Wars season, Galactic Battle, with a Star Wars battle pass, X-wing dogfights, and a five-week story. Variety called it the biggest Fortnite tie-in ever staged.
- Epic now hands creators an official Star Wars toolkit, and hundreds of community-built Star Wars islands run inside Fortnite permanently.
- Disney paid $1.5 billion for a stake in Epic to build a "games and entertainment universe" around Fortnite that names Star Wars explicitly; Bob Iger called it Disney's biggest move into games ever. For context on what Fortnite events can do: 15.3 million concurrent players showed up for a single Marvel event, a number bigger than most Star Wars games' lifetime audiences.
Even on a night with no Star Wars season running, more people are within two clicks of an official Star Wars island in Fortnite than are playing every native Star Wars game combined. When a Star Wars season IS running, it isn't a competition.
What this means, honestly
If "most popular Star Wars game" means the game built as one that most people are playing tonight, the answer is The Old Republic. If it means the Star Wars game the most humans have played and paid for, it's Galaxy of Heroes, and it isn't close. But if it means where the most people are using the Force at this exact moment, the honest answer is Fortnite, and Disney's $1.5 billion says they know it.
