Star Wars Zero Company peaked at 69,046 concurrent players on Steam during its launch day, passing Jedi: Survivor's all-time peak of 67,583 from May 2023. That makes it the biggest Steam launch any Star Wars action or RPG title has managed, and it beat the record by about 1,500 players.

A lot of coverage this morning is calling it the biggest Star Wars launch on Steam ever. That part is wrong. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga peaked at 82,446 in April 2022 and still holds the franchise record by a comfortable 13,000 players.

The actual leaderboard

All-time Steam concurrent peaks, per SteamCharts:

GamePeakWhen
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga82,446Apr 2022
Zero Company69,046Aug 2026
Jedi: Survivor67,583May 2023
Jedi: Fallen Order46,513Nov 2019
Battlefront II35,321Jun 2025
The Old Republic27,416Jul 2020
Outlaws3,397Mar 2025

Outlaws looks brutal in that column and it needs an asterisk: it skipped Steam at launch and only arrived later, so its Steam number reflects almost none of its actual audience.

What our own tracker caught

We sample Steam concurrents for 14 Star Wars games every two hours. Our snapshots from launch day:

Time (UTC)Zero Company on Steam
Aug 27, 15:5353,184
Aug 27, 20:2868,966
Aug 28, 06:0537,436

Our 20:28 reading of 68,966 sits 80 players under the published peak, so a two-hourly sample landed almost exactly on the top of the curve.

The 37,436 this morning is the overnight trough, not a collapse. Steam concurrents swing hard on a daily cycle and 6am UTC is the middle of the night across North America. Anyone posting that number as evidence of a crash is reading a clock, not a trend. Ask again at the weekend, which is when the real retention question gets answered.

Why beating Survivor is the interesting part

The LEGO comparison is fun but it's not really the same contest. Skywalker Saga is a family game covering nine films, and it sold to an audience that does not overlap much with this one.

Jedi: Survivor is the fair comparison, and Zero Company beating it is genuinely surprising. Survivor was a marquee $70 action game built on a proven hit. Zero Company is a turn-based tactics game, a genre that usually sells to a narrower crowd, and it out-drew Survivor's opening on Steam anyway. That is the number EA will be looking at when it decides whether Bit Reactor gets to make another one.

Worth keeping in perspective: Steam concurrents don't count PS5 or Xbox at all, so every figure here is a slice of the real audience rather than the whole of it.

The details

  • Peak figures are SteamCharts all-time peaks. Zero Company's 69,046 comes from launch-day reporting; SteamCharts had not yet published its page for the game when we checked.
  • Our own snapshots come from the tracker behind our player-count coverage, which polls Steam every two hours.
  • Still playing through it ourselves: the launch-day hands-on covers our first 50 minutes, crashes included. The review comes when we finish the campaign.
