Episode I: Jedi Power Battles

A prequel-era beat ’em up that was hard, awkward, and weirdly beloved, mostly for its two-player couch co-op. Aspyr’s 2025 remaster is the version to play: modern controls, every original character and level unlocked from the start, and 13 more to earn. $19.99 on current consoles and PC.

Playing it today

A one-evening game for two people who remember it. Aspyr's January 2025 remaster is the only version worth buying: it adds modern controls alongside the classic ones, unlocks the characters and levels the original hid, and adds new playable characters such as the Tusken Raider. The ten-level Phantom Menace campaign is short.

The game underneath is still from 2000. The platforming is fussy, the combat is simple, and critics were hard on the remaster for leaving the core untouched. Steam players are warmer at 77 percent positive.

Play it with a second person on the couch; that is the whole appeal. There is no online co-op, so a remote friend on PC needs Steam's Remote Play Together, and a controller is required for local multiplayer. Solo players and anyone without nostalgia for the PlayStation original can skip it.
