Embo & Keibu is the next Conquest unit in Galaxy of Heroes, with the event that pays out their shards listed for September 28 to October 12, 2026: a Kyuzo bounty hunter and his anooba fighting as one Large Character, built off their scenes in this spring's The Mandalorian and Grogu. Embo was drawn to die at the end of one Clone Wars episode in 2010, and the man who voiced him has been finding him new work ever since. This is a Holotable Files entry: the in-game facts, then where the character actually comes from.

The vitals

  • Released: the kit went up on September 11, 2026, the unit reached the game data on September 16, and Conquest 25, the first event that pays out their shards, runs September 28 to October 12.
  • Alignment / role: Dark Side · Attacker · Leader · Bounty Hunter, Hutt Cartel, Mercenary, Scoundrel, Large Character.
  • How you get them: Conquest reward crates, not a marquee. The unit activates at 330 shards, straight to seven stars (swgoh.gg). The community Conquest wiki has the top Hard-mode crate at 90 shards for the featured unit, so three max crates land you at 270 and the Wandering Scavenger (5 shards a visit for Conquest Credits) covers the rest. Kahzgul's Conquest Basics puts a day-one seven-star, over three Conquests, at no more than 6,300 crystals for a player who plans the run. Miss those three and you wait for Proving Grounds, which third-party trackers pencil in for September 2027.
  • Built to work with: a full squad of characters carrying both the Bounty Hunter and Mercenary tags. Per swgoh.gg's Mercenary list, that pool is Cad Bane, Krrsantan, Boba Fett (Scion of Jango), Dengar, Fennec Shand, Jango Fett, Aurra Sing, Zam Wesell and the old Embo. Bossk, Greedo and IG-88 do not qualify.

Where they come from

Embo started as a sketch for a show that never happened: a rough George Lucas concept for the live-action Star Wars: Underworld, handed to the Clone Wars crew and finished by Pat Presley in October 2008, hat already in place (Wookieepedia). He debuted in "Bounty Hunters," season two, episode 17, aired April 2, 2010, an episode dedicated to Akira Kurosawa and built on Seven Samurai. Dave Filoni named the species Kyuzo after Seiji Miyaguchi's swordsman in that film, and voiced Embo himself, in a made-up language that is actually badly pronounced French read out of the editor's Smurfs books. The script killed Embo at the end of the episode; the crew liked him too much and redid the scene so Hondo only wounded him.

The dog came two years later. In season four's "Bounty" (2012) Embo turned up with an anooba named Marrok, a Filoni addition he has compared to Snake Eyes and Timber from G.I. Joe. Marrok's death is canon: in Chuck Wendig's Aftermath: Empire's End (2017), set in 5 ABY, Embo tells Jas Emari the animal died some years earlier, which is how Wookieepedia dates it to 3 ABY or before.

Then Filoni co-wrote a film and put him back to work. In The Mandalorian and Grogu (US release May 22, 2026, Wikipedia) the Hutt Twins hire Embo to bring in Din Djarin, and he does: nets Mando on Nevarro, delivers him to Nal Hutta, gets paid, and comes back for the finale. Stunt performer Donald Mills played him on set and ILM rebuilt the performance digitally for his 1.99-meter frame. The anooba at his side is Keibu, a new character created for the film. Filoni told StarWars.com: "I figured that Marrok was probably no longer around by the time of the film, so we gave Embo a new dog named Keibu." She is, by the same interview, the only word Embo says in the movie that the audience can understand. Keibu is the dog that came after Marrok, and the Databank lists her as "a well-trained and loyal anooba" who tracks his bounties. Her best scene is Grogu calming her down with the Force while Embo and Mando fight over their heads.

The first Embo joined Galaxy of Heroes in August 2018 as a bowcaster sniper; the kit post says the new one had to feel "meaningfully different from his bowcaster-wielding incarnation." Hence the hat, the hound and the smoke.

The kit, decoded

Every line below is from the official kit post.

  • Anooba Ambush (basic): damage plus two unresistable stacks of Bleed (max 6) for the whole encounter, and if the target had no buffs, a 20% Turn Meter swing. With a full Bounty Hunter Mercenary squad it also cleanses the team and hands a random other Attacker a bonus turn. The designers say the Bleed exists "because she is physically tearing into the quarry"; the basic attack is the dog's.
  • Kyuzo Hat Trick (special): three hits, +200% Health Steal against Tanks and +100% Defense Penetration against everyone else, 50% stacking Offense for the crew, and if it is evaded the target still loses 20% Health. The three hits are Embo's melee string and the hat. A buffless target gives a Support ally a bonus turn.
  • Flush Out the Quarry (special): dispel all buffs, hit, gain Critical Damage Up; with the full squad it inflicts Captive on the target and a stack of Ambush on the strongest enemy, which becomes Ambushed (no Protection, persists through defeat) after six hits. The design note calls this "Embo & Keibu working together to isolate and capture a target."
  • Payout (unique): when a Bounty Hunter Contract pays out, the crew gets 50% Critical Damage for the battle and the pair gain 10 Speed per resisted debuff.
  • Soldier of Fortune (unique, omicron in Territory Wars): the Mercenary stack mechanic. Dispels bank stacks, every crew turn cashes them as Offense, and taking a hit spends ten to heal the weakest ally.
  • Business Is Business (leader): the whole reason to build them. Crew gets +100% Defense Penetration and Max Health; every bonus turn an ally takes cuts their cooldowns, Stuns the target and adds up to four extra hits; after every two ally bonus turns the pair take one themselves. While an enemy is Captive, the crew stacks Ransom off enemy buffs and out-of-turn attacks. Hit 30 Ransom before Embo's next turn and the Captive is released and Exposed; fall short and they are Tortured for the rest of the encounter. The Contract, 20 buffed hits, unlocks Smoke and Shadow: a one-turn Stealth that heals the pair or their weakest ally each enemy turn, then cuts the Offense of everyone who attacked through it. The designers say the idea came from "Embo running away from the Mandalorian using a Smoke bomb," and that is the film's Nal Hutta throne room in a single ability.

One catch in the post itself: the leader text says the pair take a bonus turn after every two ally bonus turns, the synergy note says three. The Final Text is what ships.

Do you need them?

If you already have Cad Bane, Krrsantan, Scion of Jango and Dengar at relic levels, yes, and you should plan the Conquest run before it opens rather than during it. This is a leader that gives nine old characters a bonus-turn engine, and the swtorstrategies early guide reads it the same way: "On paper, yes, particularly for developed accounts with several old Bounty Hunters already sitting at Relic levels." That is a third-party read of a kit nobody has run in Grand Arena yet, and so is ours.

If those Bounty Hunters are sitting at gear 8, wait. Every effect in this kit that matters checks for "all allies are Bounty Hunter Mercenaries," and the unit does nothing special in a mixed squad. Conquest shards cannot be bought back later at a fair price (Proving Grounds is a year out and pays 20 shards per 2,000-crystal refresh), so the decision comes down to your roster: a full crew, go now; anything less, spend the year building the crew first.

Either way, watch "Bounty Hunters" again. One episode, and the hat makes sense.
