Galaxy of Heroes' newest character is a stormtrooper from before the stormtrooper was finished. Stormtrooper (Concept), on the holotable since September 8 (first seen that day, per swgoh.gg), is Ralph McQuarrie's 1975 design: a shield on one arm and a lightsaber in hand, from the stage of Star Wars when the Empire's soldiers carried the same weapon as its heroes. This is the fourth entry in Holotable Files, after Mara Jade Skywalker, Yoda (Dark Side Vision) and Starkiller (Luke Concept), and it matters to more players than its Imperial Trooper tag suggests: it is one of six characters the coming Darth Jar Jar journey asks for, and all three of those earlier entries are on the same list.
The vitals
- Released: September 8, 2026, in the Era of Myths & Legends line (swgoh.gg), after an announcement at San Diego Comic-Con in July (Bespin Bulletin)
- Alignment / role: Dark Side · Tank · Empire, Imperial Trooper
- How you get them: the Blade and Bastion marquee event, live for a week and ending around September 15, where each tier after the first asks for the unit at a higher star level (3 stars for Tier II, up to 7 for Tier VI). Then the store: a 1,299-crystal pack, 5,999 and 12,990-crystal packs that leave with the event, and bundles at $29.99 (30 shards), $74.99 (100) and $99.99 (130). Episode Pass+ holders can take 20 shards free from the Era Bonus Bundle II, as one of two choices. Free-to-play farming is listed for December 2026.
- Built to work with: General Veers' Imperial Troopers, with Admiral Piett, Dark Trooper and Range Trooper beside it.
Where they come from
McQuarrie started designing the film's characters in 1975, Vader, C-3PO and the stormtrooper among them, and one of his best-known paintings from that year puts a lightsaber in a stormtrooper's hand. That was not a one-off flourish. In Lucas's early drafts and in McQuarrie's designs, stormtroopers "wield lightsabers and handheld shields as common weapons", where the finished film keeps the lightsaber for the Jedi and the Sith and leaves the troopers their blasters. The helmet and armor that reached the screen were sculpted from McQuarrie's drawings by Liz Moore and Nick Pemberton (helmet) and Brian Muir (armor), per the same history.
The painting behind this unit shows the Empire's shock troopers in a Death Star corridor, hunting the escaped heroes, and Hasbro has made it into a figure twice: in the Saga line in 2003, with a blue lightsaber, a blaster and a shield that fits either arm, and again in the 30th Anniversary Collection's McQuarrie Concept Series in 2007, repainted with gray and silver accents and battle damage on the shield. The July announcement described the new unit the same way, "charging straight into combat with their shield raised and a lightsaber in hand."
The game leans into the draft era beyond the kit. The Darth Jar Jar journey's second tier restages it outright: "Imperial Stormtroopers have breached the hull of the Rebel blockade runner," its lore reads, and a breath-masked Starkiller (Luke Concept) "faces off against the lightsaber and shield wielding Stormtroopers" (swgoh.gg journey guide).
The kit, decoded
Kit text from the official post, with Capital Games' design notes where they explain something:
- Enforcer's Blade (basic): a hit plus Defense Up for a turn, and if the unit is already buffed, it recovers 15% Health and Protection. The design note spells out the sword-and-shield idea: "the blade is there for offense, while the shield reinforces their defensive role," so the unit can keep itself alive without a healer. Every assist call is another chance to trigger the recovery.
- Linebreaker (special, 3-turn cooldown): hit, Stun and Taunt for two turns, then every Imperial Trooper gains Protection Up (40%) and recovers Protection worth 25% of this unit's Defense, and Imperial Trooper Attackers gain Advantage. That last part is aimed at Dark Trooper, who, as the notes point out, cannot land a critical hit without Advantage.
- Alderaan Prison Security (unique, Zeta and Omicron): with an all Imperial Trooper squad, it Taunts for two turns at the start of every encounter, gains 50% Defense and Tenacity while Taunting, and hits back for True damage worth half its Defense whenever it is attacked. The rest of the squad gets 30% Critical Avoidance and Defense, and the first time each ally drops below half Health, this unit Taunts and shields them.
- The Omicron (Grand Arena, 5v5 and 3v3): 10% Turn Meter for the whole squad whenever this unit is hit, an undispellable one-turn Taunt when its Taunt is stripped, Daze cleansed on contact with 25% Turn Meter as compensation, and an extra assist call whenever an ally with Protection acts. The catch is in EA's own FAQ: it requires an all Imperial Trooper squad and no Galactic Legends on either side.
The Unique's name looks like a draft-era nod too. Through the treatment and the first three drafts of what became A New Hope, Alderaan was the capital of the "New Galactic Empire," a gas giant with a city much like the later Cloud City (Wookieepedia); Leia's peaceful homeworld came later. An Imperial trooper guarding an Alderaan prison belongs to that version of the galaxy. That is our reading: Capital Games' notes do not explain the name.
Do you need them?
If you want Darth Jar Jar: yes, at 7 stars. The journey guide lists Stormtrooper (Concept) for all four tiers, alongside Jaxxon, Mara Jade Skywalker, Starkiller (Luke Concept), The Ronin and Yoda (Dark Side Vision). The journey is marked "coming soon" with no date, and that date decides everything: if it opens before the December farm, this unit is the expensive part of the requirement; if it opens after, farming covers it. Watch for the date before you buy anything.
If you run General Veers in Grand Arena: it is the Tank that squad has been missing, and the Omicron turns every hit it takes into Turn Meter for the team. It also switches off the moment a Galactic Legend appears on either side, which near the top of Grand Arena is most matches. Expect it to shine lower down the ladder and in 3v3.
Everyone else: it does very little. Nearly every line of the Unique checks for an all Imperial Trooper squad.
Spend? Our standing advice for marquee units holds: the $99.99 math only makes sense for competitive Grand Arena players who need it this season. Everyone else waits for the December farm, unless the Darth Jar Jar date lands first.
