Star Wars Eclipse release date: everything we know

Short answer: there is no release date, and no release window either. Star Wars Eclipse was announced in December 2021 and, nearly five years later, Quantic Dream has never given it a year. Anyone telling you otherwise is quoting a rumor.

What is confirmed

• It exists and is in development. Studio founder David Cage: development "continues, and we are eager to share more with you in the future."
• Setting: the High Republic era, centuries before the Skywalker films.
• Developer and publisher: Quantic Dream, the studio behind Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human, now owned by NetEase.
• Platforms: PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
• It appeared at D23 on August 14, 2026, at the Lucasfilm Pavilion. That is the first time it had been shown publicly in years, and it is the single most encouraging thing that has happened to this project in a while.

What is rumored, and how much to trust it

A 2026 target that has clearly slipped. Insider Gaming reported in 2023 that Eclipse was aiming at a tentative 2026 release. 2026 is now nearly over with no date announced, so treat that as expired rather than pending.

"Still years off." Game Informer reported in April 2026 that the game remained years from release, with development described as very slow going. This is the single most credible signal about timing, and it points well past 2026.

Fans think the D23 trailer was old footage. A widely shared observation after the showing was that it resembled a longer cut of the 2021 reveal rather than new gameplay. That is a fan reading, not a confirmed fact, and we have seen no technical analysis proving it either way.

The studio problem

Timing is not the only question. Whether Quantic Dream can finish this game at its current size is a real one.

June 2026: the walkout. Workers struck over 115 planned layoffs and said publicly that Eclipse could not be finished without the people being cut. Our report.

July 2026: the studio's answer. Quantic Dream said development was going according to plan, and confirmed it is also building a separate competitive multiplayer game, which means the studio is splitting attention while under strain. Our report.

May 2026: the studio shut down its live-service MOBA, Spellcasters, and said the closure would not affect Eclipse.

August 2026: the D23 showing. After all of the above, the game turned up on a Lucasfilm stage. Our report.

Two readings fit those facts. Either the D23 appearance signals the project stabilizing after a rough year, or it is a reassurance exercise for a game still a long way out. We do not know which, and neither does anyone else writing about it.

Our honest read

Do not expect Star Wars Eclipse before 2028, and do not be shocked if it never ships in the form announced. That is not cynicism about Quantic Dream, it is what the visible evidence supports: no date from the studio in five years, credible reporting that it is years away, a workforce dispute over whether it can be finished at all, and a trailer fans suspect was recycled.
