At 18:39 UTC on Sunday, our tracker counted 75,825 people playing Star Wars Zero Company on Steam. That is the highest reading we have taken of this game, and it landed on day four.

Why it matters

Single-player games are supposed to peak on launch night and slide from there. The launch crowd finishes its first session, the curious drop off, and the curve settles. Zero Company has done the opposite three days running.

Here is every day since launch, at each day's busiest sweep:

DayPeak readingTime (UTC)
Thu Aug 27 (launch)68,96620:28
Fri Aug 2862,81018:38
Sat Aug 2974,28220:53
Sun Aug 3075,82518:39

Friday dipped, which is normal. Then the weekend went past launch night twice. On Saturday we wrote that the biggest number we had measured was not from launch night but from Saturday. That held for about twenty hours.

The gap to the rest of the catalogue widened too. In that same Sunday sweep, the twelve other Star Wars games we track totalled 16,558 between them. Zero Company had 4.6 times the rest of the franchise put together.

Two things to hold this loosely by

Monday morning is not a decline. Our first two readings today were 31,248 and 28,994, both taken while North America was asleep or at work. That is the daily trough, the same shape as Saturday's 40,546 at breakfast. Reading a trough as a trend is the most common way people get these charts wrong, and we are not going to do it to our own data. What Monday actually means gets answered by Monday evening's readings, not its morning ones.

These are spot readings, not true peaks. Our tracker samples a handful of times a day, so the real Sunday high sits somewhere at or above 75,825. Every figure here is Steam only, with no PS5 or Xbox players counted.

The details

  • All figures are our own Steam readings from the tracker behind our player-count coverage. Each comparison uses a single sweep, so the numbers line up with each other.
  • Saturday's snapshot and the full franchise table are in the weekend piece, which called Saturday the high. Sunday beat it.
  • The question that actually settles this is retention, and that needs a second weekend. We will run the same sweep on Saturday and put the two side by side.
  • Still working through the campaign. The review lands when it is honest, and the starter guide is up now.
