Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter

The Starfighter sequel, with Force powers bolted onto your ship and Nym back as a co-star. More varied than the first game and just as easy to pick up. There is no PC version at all: it exists on PS4 as a PS2 Classic and nowhere else.

Playing it today

Still worth playing, and easy to get: $9.99 on the PS4's PlayStation Store. Jedi Starfighter scored 81 on Metacritic in 2002. It adds Force powers to your ship, brings back Nym as a second playable pilot, and mixes up its missions more than the first game did.

The PS4 version is the PS2 game emulated, rendered at 1080p and with trophies added. It plays on a PS5, and it is in the PlayStation Plus Premium catalog, so check your subscription before you buy it. Sony warns that PS2 Classics may play slightly differently from the original disc.

There is no PC version and never was, so PC players are left with the first Starfighter. Skip this one if you want a sim; it is an arcade shooter built for a controller, and a good one.
