Star Wars: Obi-Wan

A troubled project. It started as a PC game, got moved to Xbox exclusivity late in development, lost its planned multiplayer on the way, and shipped to mixed reviews in 2001. The saber controls came from a mouse and never adapted. Historically interesting, not much fun.

Released: 2001
Developer: LucasArts
Genre: Action-adventure
Platforms: Xbox

Playing it today

A curiosity for Xbox collectors, and hard to recommend to anyone else. Obi-Wan started life as a PC game, moved to Xbox exclusivity in late 2000, lost its planned multiplayer along the way, and shipped in December 2001 to a 58 on Metacritic. Your saber swings follow the right analog stick, and reviews split hard over it, from 8.8 at GameZone to 4 out of 10 at Eurogamer.

It has never been re-released. There is no PC version, no remaster, and Microsoft has not added it to backward compatibility, so a newer Xbox will not play the disc. The legal route is a secondhand copy on an original Xbox.

If you want prequel-era lightsaber action today, Jedi Power Battles and the Jedi Knight games are easier to get and more fun to play. Come to Obi-Wan only if you care about its odd place in LucasArts history.
