Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012 and handed the games licence to EA the year after. Everything since has been made under that arrangement or the one that followed it, and unlike the older eras, we can measure all of it: eight games, all on Steam, all counted by us every two hours.
Same method as our 2000s ranking. What critics said at release, and who is actually playing now.
The data
Player numbers are the busiest moment we recorded in the week to September 1, 2026.
| Game | Year | Metacritic | Peak players |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zero Company | 2026 | 86 | 75,825 |
| Jedi: Survivor | 2023 | 85 | 2,080 |
| LEGO Skywalker Saga | 2022 | 82 | 813 |
| Jedi: Fallen Order | 2019 | 79 | 1,151 |
| Squadrons | 2020 | 79 | 85 |
| Outlaws | 2024 | 75 | 1,096 |
| Battlefront (2015) | 2015 | 73 | 47 |
| Battlefront II (2017) | 2017 | 68 | 1,752 |
Two things jump out.
Zero Company's 86 is the best a Star Wars game has reviewed since 2004, when KOTOR II also scored 86. That is the headline everyone ran, and it holds up. Its player number is not comparable to anything else here, though: the game is five days old and still inside its launch spike. Check back in three months.
The worst-reviewed game of the era is the second most played. Battlefront II scored 68, the lowest on this list, and today only a brand-new release beats it. That gap is not an accident, and it is the most interesting story in Disney-era Star Wars gaming.
The ranking
Star Wars: Zero Company 2026
Bit Reactor / Respawn
- Metacritic
- 86
- Playing now
- 75,825
The best-reviewed Star Wars game in twenty-two years, and our own 9 out of 10. Turn-based Clone Wars tactics with the best squad customization the licence has produced. The player figure is launch-inflated and will fall; the score will not.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor 2023
Respawn Entertainment
- Metacritic
- 85
- Playing now
- 2,080
The high point of the Cal Kestis trilogy so far, and still pulling two thousand players three years on. It launched in poor technical shape on PC and spent months being fixed, which is worth remembering when people talk about Zero Company's rough edges as if they were unprecedented.
Star Wars Battlefront II (2017) 2017
EA DICE
- Metacritic
- 68
- Playing now
- 1,752
The redemption story of the era. It launched in 2017 into the loudest backlash in modern gaming, over progression built around paid crates, and the 68 on Metacritic is a snapshot of that moment. EA pulled the microtransactions, rebuilt progression, and then shipped years of free content on top.
The reviews describe a game that no longer exists. What exists now is the best-looking large-scale Star Wars shooter ever made, and the numbers say people know it.
Star Wars Outlaws 2024
Massive Entertainment
- Metacritic
- 75
- Playing now
- 1,096
Ubisoft's scoundrel game, and the first Star Wars title in years from outside EA. A 75 and a mixed reception, but a real audience that stuck: it is holding about the same numbers as Fallen Order despite being a decade younger and reportedly losing its sequel.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga 2022
Traveller's Tales
- Metacritic
- 82
- Playing now
- 813
The second-best-reviewed game of the era and a commercial monster, but its players are heavily on console where we cannot count them. Treat the 813 as the smallest slice of its real audience of anything on this page.
Star Wars: Squadrons 2020
Motive Studio
- Metacritic
- 79
- Playing now
- 85
Well reviewed, genuinely great in VR, and very quiet now. It was built as a finished product rather than a live service, so this is a game that ended rather than one that failed. Our full player-count breakdown has the detail, including why the Steam number understates it.
Star Wars Battlefront (2015) 2015
EA DICE
- Metacritic
- 73
- Playing now
- 47
The one nobody defends. Gorgeous, thin, and stripped of the things people wanted, including a campaign. Its own sequel outdraws it roughly thirty-seven to one. That is the cleanest verdict available.
What the numbers do not capture
Consoles. Everything here is Steam only. That hurts LEGO Skywalker Saga most, and matters for Outlaws and both Battlefronts too.
Zero Company is five days old. It sits at number one on the strength of its reviews. Its player count will not stay at 75,825 and we are not pretending otherwise. We will revisit that as the data comes in.
Review scores freeze a moment. Battlefront II is the proof. A number assigned in November 2017 tells you almost nothing about the game running on your machine in 2026.
What to install tonight
Best game, if you like thinking: Zero Company.
Best game, if you like swinging a lightsaber: Jedi: Survivor, and play Fallen Order first.
Best value right now: Battlefront II, which is cheap, enormous, and nothing like its reputation.
Skip: Battlefront (2015). Its sequel is better in every measurable way.
The details
- Metacritic scores as reported at release. Zero Company's 86 and the twenty-two-year record are per Forbes.
- Player numbers are our own Steam readings, the busiest moment in the week to September 1, 2026, counted the same way as in our player-count coverage.
- SWTOR is not here because it launched in 2011, before Disney bought Lucasfilm. It has its own page.
- This is the second entry in an era series, after the 2000s. The 90s and the full mega-list follow.
