The worst-reviewed Star Wars game ever made is Episode II: Attack of the Clones on Game Boy Advance, with a Metacritic score of 38. Flight of the Falcon, another Game Boy Advance game, is one point behind it. Eleven Star Wars games averaged under 60 with critics, and the good news is that you can buy almost none of them today. The one you can, The Force Unleashed II, sits at the least-bad end of the list, and the first Force Unleashed is the better buy at the same price.
How we ranked them
The sort is aggregate review scores, lowest first. We used Metacritic where a game has a score, and GameRankings (the older aggregator, now closed) for games from before Metacritic covered them. Where a game came out on several platforms, we used the version still on sale if there is one, and otherwise the lead version. Anything under 60 made the list. Ties are listed oldest first.
Review scores freeze a moment, and we said as much when we ranked the best Star Wars games. A low score does not mean nobody loved the game. Where a game has a following or one thing it did well, we say so.
What is out of scope: mobile games, and online games that have shut down. A live mobile game's launch score says little about it years later, and a closed server cannot be played at all. That leaves Star Wars: Hunters, which shut down on October 1, 2025, off the list.

The ranking
Episode II: Attack of the Clones 2002
David A. Palmer
- Metacritic
- 38
A side game released alongside the second prequel film by David A. Palmer Productions, and the lowest-scored Star Wars game on record. Metacritic has it at 38 and GameRankings at 38.87 percent. Reviewers went after the controls, the level design, a difficulty that offered little challenge and a password save system that already felt old in 2002. Game Informer gave it 1 out of 10. IGN was kinder than most, which is the only defense on record.
Play instead: the Attack of the Clones chapter of LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, second in our LEGO ranking.
Star Wars: Flight of the Falcon 2003
Pocket Studios
- Metacritic
- 39
A 3D flight game on hardware that could not run one. Pocket Studios built it and THQ published it, and nearly every review said the frame rate made stretches of it hard to play. Missions ran long and repeated themselves. Game Informer gave it 2.25 out of 10 and Nintendo Life 2 out of 10. The music and sound drew praise, and a few reviewers liked the detailed backgrounds.
Play instead: Rogue Squadron, which survives as Rogue Squadron 3D on Steam and GOG. The full list is in our space combat ranking.
The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes 2009
Krome Studios
- Metacritic
- 43
The lowest score on this list for a home console game. Krome Studios made this Clone Wars tie-in for almost every platform of 2009, and it scored 43 on PS3 and Xbox 360 and 46 on PC. The fixed camera drew the most complaints, with platforming that IGN called unresponsive and that GameSpot summed up as "spectacularly frustrating." The story was dull and the fighting repeated. It is not sold digitally.
Play instead: LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, the same era done well, on Steam.
Star Wars: Rebellion 1998
Coolhand Interactive
- Playing now
- not sold digitally
The one entry here with a real fan base. Rebellion is a galaxy-scale strategy game from Coolhand Interactive, and critics were harsh: 50 percent on GameRankings, and GameSpot named it the most disappointing game of 1998. Players have been kinder since, and it placed fifth of six in our strategy ranking. The complaint was always the interface, never the ambition. Disney pulled it from Steam and GOG in April 2026, so secondhand discs are the only legal copies left.
Play instead: Empire at War, with the Awakening of the Rebellion mod, which is built as an homage to it. Our mods guide covers the install.
Star Wars: Masters of Teräs Käsi 1997
LucasArts
- Playing now
- PlayStation disc only
A one-on-one fighting game in which Luke, Han, Leia, Chewbacca and Boba Fett take on Arden Lyn, an assassin created for the game. GameRankings averaged 53.83 percent. GameSpot (4.4) and IGN (4) both said the fighters moved in slow motion, and GameSpot found the Force moves overpowered. Kotaku later called it possibly the worst Star Wars game ever made.
It also has a cult following. GMR ranked it among its top five Star Wars games in 2004, and Solo name-checked the martial art it invented. If you are curious, a fan project that recompiles it to run natively on PC was still a work in progress in August, and it needs your own PlayStation disc.
Play instead: the lightsaber duels in Jedi Academy, a much better Star Wars fighting system.
Kinect Star Wars 2012
Terminal Reality
- Metacritic
- 55
Terminal Reality's motion-controlled Star Wars game for Xbox 360. It has a Jedi story campaign, podracing, a mode in which you play a rampaging rancor, and the Galactic Dance-Off, home of the "I'm Han Solo" routine. Critics scored it 55, faulting the slow lightsaber combat and imprecise blocking. Giant Bomb called it "a shoddy product on almost every level." The dance mode had defenders, and G4 liked the rancor.
It is stuck on the Xbox 360: Kinect games do not work through backward compatibility on Xbox One or Series consoles. You need a 360, an original Kinect and a disc.
Play instead: if it is the living-room lightsaber you want, Vader Immortal in VR.
The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels 2008
Krome Studios
- Metacritic
- 56
A Wii fighting game from Krome Studios, the same studio as Republic Heroes, built on the promise of swinging the Wii Remote as a lightsaber. It scored 56. Eurogamer gave it 2 out of 10, and the common complaint was that the motion controls never delivered on that promise and the fighting ran out of depth fast.
Play instead: Jedi: Fallen Order, for lightsaber combat that rewards you for learning it.
Star Wars: Force Commander 2000
Ronin Entertainment
- Playing now
- not sold digitally
LucasArts' first 3D real-time strategy game, co-developed with Ronin Entertainment. GameRankings averaged 58 percent. Reviewers fought the camera and the controls, and GameSpot named it the most disappointing game of 2000.
Play instead: Galactic Battlegrounds, $5.99 on Steam and GOG.
Episode I: Jedi Power Battles 2000
LucasArts
- Metacritic
- 58
The Game Boy Advance version, a separate game by HotGen published by THQ in 2001. (The card above shows the original, which is a different game and a much better one.) It scored 58, well below the console versions.
Play instead: the remaster of the original, released by Aspyr in January 2025 for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch at $19.99. It is two-player co-op and made our co-op list.
Star Wars: Obi-Wan 2001
LucasArts
- Metacritic
- 58
Planned for PC, then moved to Xbox as an exclusive in late 2000, and it arrived in December 2001 with its online plans cut. It scored 58: GameSpot gave it 4.6 out of 10 and Eurogamer 4. It did win an award for its sound. It was not among the original Xbox Star Wars games Microsoft made playable on Xbox One in 2018, so the original disc on original hardware is the way in.
Play instead: Jedi Power Battles (the remaster above) for Obi-Wan with a lightsaber, or Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast for a lightsaber game from the same era that holds up.
The Force Unleashed II 2010
LucasArts
- Metacritic
- 59
The only game on this list you can still buy digitally. On PC, the version Steam sells, it scored 59; the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions scored 61 and 63. Critics called it short and repetitive, with an underwhelming story. The powers still feel good while it lasts, and Steam's reviewers are split at 63 percent positive.
Play instead: the first game, as The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition. It is the same $19.99 on Steam, it scored 65 on PC to its sequel's 59, and its Steam reviews run 76 percent positive.
Close calls we left out
Super Bombad Racing (2001). Metacritic 71, so the numbers keep it off. Game Informer disagreed: it gave the game 2.5 out of 10 and in 2015 ranked it the second-worst Star Wars game ever made.
Demolition (2000). A vehicular combat game on the Vigilante 8 engine that scored 63 on PlayStation and 67 on Dreamcast. Reviewers said the fun ran out quickly.
Lethal Alliance (2006). 61 on PSP, the lead version, and 57 on DS.
Ports of good games. The PC version of Battle for Naboo scored 54 against the Nintendo 64 original's 84, and the PlayStation version of The Phantom Menace averaged 54 percent to the PC version's 62. We score each game by its lead version, so neither makes the list.
The unscored ones. Jedi Arena (1983, Atari 2600) and Yoda Stories (1997) have no aggregate score. Jedi Arena is a paddle-controller duel between two Jedi who barely move, and it was the first Star Wars game with a lightsaber; retrospectives rank it among the worst. Yoda Stories got mixed reviews on PC, and its 1999 Game Boy Color port got a 2 out of 10 from IGN, the lowest it ever gave a Game Boy Color game.
If you came here looking for something good
Every game above has a better Star Wars game in the same genre, and most of those are cheap. Start with our all-time ranking, or narrow it by era: the 1990s, the 2000s and the Disney era. If you are not sure what you want, our picker asks a few questions and hands you one game.
The details
- Scores are Metacritic's where one exists, otherwise GameRankings', checked in September 2026. The two use the same 0 to 100 scale, but they are not identical, so treat a gap of a point or two as a tie.
- Prices are Steam's regular US prices for the week of September 21, 2026.
- Where a game was released on several platforms, the table names the one we scored. Other versions are mentioned where they differ.
